:The Creative Content Section:

Last Updated: Saturday, May 20th, 2007

I think everyone who runs tabletop RPGs and who treats their “hobby” as an art form, as a creative outlet rather than a chore will at one point consider having their own materials published. The ideas, creative elements, house rules, wild magic tables, and TRPG stuff listed below all come from a body of work that I wanted to publish, here, on the internet (as "Open Game Content"), so it could be shared, used, and enjoyed. For the most part, these things were created by my friends and I; when I list borrowed content I try to cite the source. Feel free to post any questions, comments, critiques and so on in regard to this content in the forums section (rpgresearch.org metacomments). Enjoy.

:Links To D&D House Rules:

The Gamecrafters' Guild

A perfectly geeky and insightful, aesthetically pleasing blog-site featuring running thoughts on various d20 house rules.

Theeurth House Rules

This listing of house rules seems to have been written to fix what the author saw as problems with the core 3.5 D&D rules. All in all holistic and insightful; a good tool.

"Kim D&D"

The author, Kim, explains that: "Behind the Curtain: I'm a great fan of symmetry... especially mathematical symmetry that you can use to measurably predict the consequences of rule changes. With the introduction of the awesome d20 system, it now becomes possible to measure all effects on the same modifier scale (+1 = 5%) and to construct a system from scratch with whatever qualities you desire. The basic quality I am aiming for in Kim D&D is the "Rule of 50:50". If you are fighting someone equivalent to you, you should have a 50:50 chance of hitting them, affecting them with a spell, etc. A one level difference incurs ~ 5% change, so a 10 level delta pushes the average numbers to the extreme. In addition, all progressions in Kim D&D will use the "Rule of 4". Progressions now come in at least 4 flavors (Best, Good, Poor, Worst) and the difference between the Best and Worst will be four steps in some way. Skills already follow this paradigm (2,4,6,8 pts per level), and the BAB almost follows it (The Good and Poor progressions are separated by a factor of 2). Note that the old "Good" has been renamed "Best" and the old "Average" is now "Good"." Kim D&D is rooted in basic new assumptions that are interesting and coherent, and are well worth exploring...

Soda Bob's House Rules

An interesting list; the author explains that: "Note that some of these house rules contain various references to characters, places, events and other topics that exist only in our gaming group's Greyhawk campaign. For your own use, simply strip out these references or replace them with equivalents in your own world (although you may, of course, choose instead to use them for your own campaign!). Many of these house rules are works in progress, so check back occasionally for updates!"

Death Quaker's House Rules

I love the name of this site; short and to the point - only one page however..

True20 House Rules

House rules for a variant d20 D&D system. Well organized and presented. Could be canibalized for any d20 System game.

Aaargh D&D House Rules

An old-school web site with straight-up house rules; fairly standard ideas.

Ptolus: City by the Spire House Rules

This site is well laid out and easy to navigate: the house rules listed on thsi site are of the "read these if you want to play in my campaign.." variety, and are not very extensive.

Atlantis: The Orichalcum Age (Web Site)

An extensive collection of specific-campaign-focussed house rules which are quite unique; a must read.

Kingdom of Herva House Rules

An amazingly well composed site, with a wild magic table! Multiple categories of house rules; deep content.
